4 Days Desert Tour from Rabat to Marrakech
A private four-day journey from Rabat to Marrakech across the Middle Atlas and the Sahara. Highlights include Meknes and the Fez medina, Ifrane and the cedar forests, a camel ride and a night in a luxury desert camp, the Todra Gorge and Dades Valley, and the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou. We offer discounts for groups and families.
Day 1: Rabat – Meknes – Fez
After breakfast we leave Rabat and drive through wide farmland to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, to see the huge Bab Mansour gate. In Fez you have a guided tour of the medina: the Jewish quarter (Mellah), the gates of the Royal Palace, Al-Qarawiyyin University, the tanneries, the shrine of Moulay Idriss and more. Overnight in a riad or hotel in Fez, with breakfast.
Day 2: Fez – Ifrane – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
After breakfast we visit Ifrane and stop in the cedar forest of the Middle Atlas, where you can see wild Barbary macaques. We continue to Midelt, through the beautiful Ziz Valley to Erfoud, and on to Merzouga. Here you ride a camel into the dunes to watch the sunset, then enjoy dinner and a night in a luxury desert camp.
Day 3: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Your camel guide wakes you early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast you ride back by camel and we drive to Tinghir and the Todra Gorge, one of the most dramatic gorges in Morocco. We continue into the Dades Valley to see the rock formations known as the “monkey fingers”. Dinner and overnight in a riad or hotel in Dades.
Day 4: Dades Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakech
After breakfast we follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Valley of Roses to the Skoura palm grove, then visit the Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate and the kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy and Gladiator were filmed. We cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass and drop you at your accommodation in Marrakech in the afternoon.
